Dennis Rodman turns 62 today, and in reading his bio, we realize there’s so much we didn’t know about one of the most interesting guys (and possibly the greatest defensive player) in NBA history. In our memory, Rodman was and always will be part of the Chicago Bulls, even though that stint of his legendary career lasted just 3 seasons (with, of course, 3 NBA titles). We sometimes forget that he had 7 stellar seasons in Detroit and a couple in San Antonio before joining up with Jordan, Pippen and the crew. Things we didn’t know about Rodman, probably because his antics outshined everything else – he was cut from his high school basketball team because, at 5’6″, he wasn’t seen as much of an athletic talent. Instead of going to college, he worked as a janitor after high school before gaining 8 inches of height and playing college ball at North Central Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma State of the NAIA. This also explains why Rodman didn’t play in the NBA until age 25. Did you know Rodman has 28 brothers and sisters from various mothers? Neither did we. Maybe home life had something to do with his wild persona later on. We also learned that Rodman continued playing pro ball in the U.S., U.K., Mexico and Finland for another six years after he left the NBA in 2000. So for all this and more, we want to wish the most unusual player in the history of basketball a happy birthday today. What is your favorite Rodman story from the long, strange trip that has been his career and life?
